Almost There

We're almost there!
another couple of days

The sun is shining, the breeze is warm, and the soil is warming up.

I thought this was slightly amusing, our smallest tractor and a bigggg fertilizer spreader

Our little green soldiers are through the soil and will be on their way to a store near you very soon.

This way or That way

 Today was an outside Monday.
Usually Monday is an office day for me, but today it was too beautiful and the sunshine was calling!
With the size of the farm, things can get a little spread out and you do a lot of walking, or biking, motor biking, quading, depending on the mud/heat factor.

I started with my nice new pruning sheers. Now, what to get at first. I did the grapes last week so what about those rose bushes...
after some torn clothes and scratched arms, the dogs and I decided that could possibly wait till next year.

Then I decided that the (very little) greenhouse needed to be cleaned out.  Everything was going OK until I got to the flats that were frozen to the ground...
after some pulling and cursing I decided that could wait until the sun thawed everything out.

OK, lets take some pictures for the blog...
Everywhere I went there was something in the shot that shouldn't be there, a broken pallet, a left over pail, etc. etc.

After all of my good intentions I decided to make a list and work from one end of the yard to the next, and not run around starting on everything at one time.

But I did get some sunshine in my day today, and Charlie and I found where those lost tulip bulbs are hiding under the turf we laid last fall!

Free Asparagus

Advertising is a great thing for a any business, especially if you can convey what is special about your product and what you offer... Unless there is a break in communication with your advertising provider.

Now, maybe someone was having a bad day, or it was early on a Monday, or comparatively, late on a Friday and someone wanted to go home and party the weekend away...

But this was going a little over the edge when it comes to mistakes.  The advertiser will remain unknown to all you out there, but this was a publication that is out for a full year with no recourse for corrections...

TA DA...

I have to say I DID catch this one.   But could you imagine having to honour everyone who came in asking for free asparagus!

PS  I am chuckling now as I write this, but at the time it was a bit of a shock thinking I might have missed the 15 day proofreading time limit!

seeds cheese and chocolate

Our snow is almost at an end, the grapes have been pruned, the trees trimmed, and I have been looking curiously at our front lawn.  It seems as though the dew worms have been hard at work and left mini mountains over the entire lawn.  Where was that roller left last fall?

A little dark and dreary today
with rain and overcast sky's

A few weeks ago I attended one of the local seed exchanges in Enderby, far from local, there were dozens of tables set up with a wide assortment of vendors providing everything from heirloom vegetables to flowers to unusual and unheard of herbs and perennials.

Not only seeds, but cheese, honey, and handmade chocolates...mmm.  I wanted to provide a picture, but you know....

One of the booths was Potters Without Borders, providing information on a very simple but effective way of providing safe drinking water for people in poorer areas of the world.  Here is a link to their web site, its worth a look.  www.potterswithoutborders.com

Spring Again

How I've looked forward to this day

The last day of winter!

So long snow, see ya later

Here comes the fun!

The snow is slowly receding as the first day of spring approaches.
A little late this year, but in the Okanagan
it warms up quickly and soon the flowers will be blooming and we will have caught up with the Lower Mainland.
I'm looking forward to some warm weather again and all of the spring stuff that goes with it.
All of this years seed has been carefully selected for our vegetable crops, more plantings of asparagus and a few upgrades on the farm are planned.  We'll keep you updated as time marches on.
I'll be adding recipes for asparagus and info on the beautiful area that I live in soon, so come back and visit in a while and see the updates.
